A lawsuit was filed on Tuesday by nine families that live in the neighborhood where New Hope Church is located on Fayetteville Rd. in Durham.
The neighbors claim the music from the church is outrageous and “akin to rock concerts.”
In December, the church’s sound was cited under Durham’s noise ordinance for being “unreasonable and disturbing.”
The church has since soundproofed its walls, lowered their sound levels and changed worship times, but it seems those changes weren’t good enough for the neighbors.
Those in the community that are suing are seeking a restraining order against the church and punitive damages.
The church’s attorney says the church has been in full compliance with local and state law enforment and continues to be a good neighbor to the community.
