Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx announced Monday the 2012 Democratic National Convention pumped $163.6 million into the Charlotte area economy. This comes as an independent report paints a clearer picture about the total economic impact during September’s DNC.

The findings include $91 million in direct convention-related spending by approximately 35,000 visitors to the Queen City. The average DNC visitor stayed four days and spent $235 per day.

Organizers had originally estimated the 2012 event would pump in between $150 million and $200 million in total economic impact. The studies were funded by the city of Charlotte, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and other groups in hopes of getting an accurate and comprehensive picture of how the DNC boosted the Charlotte Region’s bottom line.
