Hurricane Sandy was double trouble for North Carolina on Monday with high winds and waves in the eastern part of the state and a winter storm in the western region of the state–State officials said they expect the twin hits to continue through at least Tuesday.

Gov. Beverly Perdue added 24 mountain counties to the declaration of emergency she issued Friday for the eastern side of the d of the state, saying western North Carolina could receive 4 to 8 inches of snow from Sandy as the storm makes it presents felt over the mid-Atlantic states with a cold front and quickly turns into a major winter storm.
