A funeral service will be held Thursday for the 3-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet during a gunfight at a Goldsboro apartment complex.  While shooter is still at large.

On Wednesday, a visitation was held at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home for Princess Shelby Diamond King.

“She was a happy child, she was joyful, she likes to play, she was very polite,” said Felicia Farmer, Princess’ aunt.

Farmer says her niece was a happy ball of energy who brought a smile to every face.

“Just like a normal three-year-old, hyper, active just want to go outside and play,” Farmer added. “”She was a sweet child. She was an innocent and just remembers her as if she was your own 3-year-old child.”

Goldsboro police say King was playing on the playground at The Grand at Day Pointe apartment complex around 3:30 p.m. Sunday when gunfire erupted during a fight between two men.

She later died at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

King’s family has been accepting donations from the public for funeral expenses. Proceeds from the sale of t-shirts with Princess’s picture on them also went to funeral expenses.

“I want everybody to continue to be aware of this incident,” said Chanel Ford, Princess’ cousin. “I don’t want her to be forgotten. I don’t want another innocent child or adult to lose a loved one because of some senseless violence.”

The alleged gunman, 29-year-old Derrick Raymont Best of Goldboro, has been charged with murder, but is not in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to call Goldsboro police. Call lead Investigator C.A. Melvin at (919) 580-4212 or Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers at (919) 735-2255.
