Dr. Cecelia Bryant, Mother Of Pastor Jamal Bryant, Passes Away At 77
We are saddened to report the passing of Dr. Cecelia Bryant. It was announced yesterday on social media that the mother of Pastor Jamal Bryant peacefully transitioned on Sept. 26.
“Dr. Rev. Cecelia Williams Bryant, the mother of Dr. Bryant, transitioned from this life earlier today. During this time, we kindly ask that you keep Dr. Bryant and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Your support and compassion are greatly appreciated as they navigate through this difficult time,” the family said in a statement.
Dr. Bryant has been a staple within the Baltimore faith community. Her ministries began in New England and have spread throughout the United States, Canada, England, The Netherlands, Israel, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Guyana, Ghana and Nigeria. She has established women’s resource and development centers and schools for children in both the United States and Africa, according to her bio on Judson Press.
She was married to her husband, Rev. John R. Bryant, for over 40 years. He was the Senior Bishop of the A.M.E. Church. Their son, Dr. Jamal H. Bryant was the founder and pastor of Empowerment Temple A.M.E. Church, Baltimore Maryland before taking over duties at New Birth in Atlanta.
Dr. Thema Bryant Davis Ph.D, the youngest child, is a Psychologist, minister to women, and a liturgical dancer.
