A woman known as “heaven’s receptionist” is comforting social media users’ concerns about the afterlife.

In her videos posted to TikTok, 26-year-old Taryn Delanie Smith dons a white bathrobe with her hair in a towel and a “razor” phone at her ear. She adopts the persona of Denise who greets new arrivals in heaven with a smile and encouraging words.

Some of her videos can take on a comedic tone. She posted one about how the late singer Barry White showed up poolside in heaven and another following Tina Turner’s death. But a majority of her offerings take on an endearing tone as users send in their own requests for a video of how Smith would welcome one of their loved ones.

In one of her most recent videos, she welcomes Ella-Rose. Her mother commented on one of Smith’s videos saying her daughter must have been “scared and sad she didn’t get to stay with (her family).” Smith as Denise comforts her, telling her there’s nothing to fear and while there are people below who miss her, there’s a lot to explore in heaven.

“I know the people you wanna see are downstairs,” she said in the clip. “But in a long time from now — it’s going to feel like a long time to them, but not to you — they’re gonna be up here with you. In the meantime, you get to play, you can be anybody you want to be, and more importantly, you’re never gonna be alone.”

This past Saturday (July 20), Smith departed from her traditional format of her videos and read a letter a user wrote to her friend Emma who died of cancer. In the note, the woman thanks her friend for encouraging her to live out her professional dreams.

Assuming the character of Denise has been rewarding for Smith who’s a former beauty queen. She won the title of Miss New York in 2022 and was a Miss America runner-up in 2022 as well. According to Today, she came up with the idea for “heaven’s receptionist” in the shower and filmed her first video right away. She said she’s grateful people are tuning in.

“I’m so honored that people trust me with their stories, trust me with their loved ones and that they want to share,” she told Today. “If I can bring someone comfort, it’s such a gift.”
