The Miss USA pageant has been under weeks of controversy which originated from pageant co-owner Donald Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants.  However, the controversy was no problem for 26 year old Olivia Jordan of Oklahoma who was crowned Miss USA on Sunday.

Jordan hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended Boston University, where she earned a B.S. in Health Science. The newly crowned Miss USA was a group fitness instructor as well as a personal trainer.

Olivia has appeared in several national and international commercials and feature films, most recently, Hot Tub Time Machine 2.  Olivia was followed by first runner-up 22 year old Ylianna Guerra of Texas, and second runner-up 20 year old Anea Garcia of Rhode Island.

Rounding out the top five was 25-year-old Miss Nevada Brittany McGown as third runner-up and then 23 year old Miss Maryland Mame Adjei.  2014 winner Nia Sanchez of Nevada will pass the torch to Olivia who shined during the interview segment, when each contestant is given 30 seconds to answer each of the two questions.

Jordan was asked what the next big issue is that the U.S. needs to tackle, and her response was race relations.  In Jordan’s words “We have not solved this issue. We really need to work on being an accepting society.”

The second interview question was about which woman should be on the new $10 bill, at first she said she wished Oprah Winfrey was eligible before suggesting Harriet Tubman as her final choice.  The pageant featured an evening wear and swimsuit competition as well as the question and answer session.

The preliminary contest was held earlier this week and then the number of women remaining was progressively narrowed during the course of Sunday evening’s telecast.  Jordan will hold the title for a year and will go on to represent the United States in the Miss Universe pageant.
