A center for the more than 400 student veterans opening at North Carolina Central University will include a lounge and a computer area.

The Veterans Center is opening Monday in the Miller-Morgan building at the campus in Durham. N.C. Central will hold a Veterans Day ceremony, then hold the grand opening of the center.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund provided a grant of more than $18,000 to help establish the center.

NCCU veterans coordinator Tomeka Davis says a campus is unfamiliar territory for many veterans, who are accustomed to a structured environment. She says that’s often the opposite of what happens in a college classroom.
