Smithfield Foods will add 330 jobs at its meat processing plant in Kinston.

Smithfiels foods said Thursday that they will invest $85.5 million to expand the facility over the next three years. It also plans to add a production line of packaged meets.

North Carolina agreed to provide a $700,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund as an incentive for Smithfield to make the expansion in the state. Such grants require a local match.

Smithfield already employs more than 12,000 people in the state.

The Kinston facility is part of Smithfield Packing Company.

“The expansion of the Kinston plant will allow us to increase our packaged meats production to keep up with growing customer demand for our products,” said C. Larry Pope, chief executive officer at Smithfield Foods, in a statement released from Gov. Bev Perdue’s office.

Salaries will average $27,644 plus benefits compared to a Lenoir County average wage of $29,276.
