NC’s First Standalone Children’s Hospital to Bring 8,000 Jobs to Apex
UNC Health and Duke Health are partnering to build North Carolina’s first standalone children’s hospital in Apex, a rapidly growing suburb of Raleigh. The proposed 500-bed pediatric facility will anchor a 230-acre medical campus that also includes outpatient services, behavioral health care, and a research and education center.
The ambitious project, estimated to cost between $2 billion and $3 billion, is expected to create around 8,000 jobs, significantly boosting the local economy. The hospital will be part of Veridea, a larger mixed-use development planned for the area.
Construction on the state-of-the-art campus is slated to begin in 2027, marking a major step forward in expanding specialized pediatric care in the region.
