A recent study by a UNC professor suggest that African Americans in NC are not being treated fairly by police and that racial profiling may be behind many traffic stops, searches and arrests.

Many at a public hearing held last night in Durham say it’s happening in Durham.

Stories were shared, one about a missing African American girl whose mom could not get a missing child alert issued from police while a white man’s silver alert was passed within minutes.

Numbers were also shared:

“Blacks in Durham are 400 percent more likely to be arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession than whites,” said one woman.

“Marijuana use between blacks and whites is virtually the same,” said another woman.
