On November 7, 2015, 8:15 – 12:30p, the Alpha Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in partnership with the Commission on Health of St. Joseph AME Church will host the Alzheimer’s and the Caregiver in the African American Community Symposium, 2521 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC, to enhance the education and care of those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and related disorders in our community. National and local experts and advocates will speak about demystifying Alzheimer’s disease, the importance of Af. Am participation in clinical trials, caregiver advocacy and support, and financial planning to manage Alzheimer’s. Come out and be informed in order to be prepared! Since our sweet potato harvest was such a success last year, harvesting 119,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, our plans are to do it again November 7, 2015 in the form of a Great Harvest Festival! Our goal is to double our sweet potato harvest numbers to 250,000 pounds! We have planted 11 acres of sweet potatoes with the help of Wester Farms and JB Rose and Sons. We have partnered with the Society of St. Andrew, a network of gleaners, to facilitate the harvest but we need your help getting the sweet potatoes out of the ground! It’s a job that everyone can participate in. The sweet potato Harvest is from 9AM-12PM. Please arrive no later than 8:30AM for check-in. The festival will follow and include fishing (please bring your own gear and tackle. NO MINNOWS), Bounce Houses, Hayrides, Great Food, and Live Entertainment (including a testimony by Jason Brown, founder and former NFL Center).
