Durham city leaders continue to weigh the option of parking fees. A company, hired to look into the situation, recommends parking meters around the Ninth Street area and in downtown Durham. The most controversial part is charging downtown residents to park their cars with a fee as high as $90 a month. Supporters say parking fees will soon allow the city’s parking fund to be self-sustainable. Right now, the fund is operating on a deficit of $2 million.
