Trump Administration Releases Files On MLK Jr. Assassination
The Trump administration has released over 230,000 documents related to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., following an executive order by President Donald Trump. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced the release, which includes FBI investigation files, internal memos, and new information concerning James Earl Ray’s former cellmate. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the public’s right to know the truth decades after King’s death, calling him one of the nation’s great leaders. While King’s children, Bernice and Martin Luther King III, had initially opposed the release, they urged the public to respond with empathy and respect for their family’s ongoing grief. Gabbard previously stated that a dedicated team has been working to digitize records related to both MLK’s and RFK’s 1968 assassinations.
