The gang task force in Vance County is doing something very creative to educate kids about the importance of staying away from gangs. It’s called their “TAG Anti-Gang Poster Contest which gives them a chance to express their feelings and win prizes.

“TAG ANTI- GANG POSTER CONTEST”

The Vance County Sheriff’s Office Gang Resource Officer would like to announce its first “ANTI-GANG POSTER CONTEST” This contest is designed to promote awareness as well as the benefits of remaining gang free. The Contestants will express their feelings on gangs and its negative influence among our youth. They will as advocate against gang involvement. Through creative and innovative concepts of artwork the teens will engage themselves in possible solutions to deter gang recruitment, activity and involvement. The Vance County Sheriff’s Office goal is to be proactive with the teens of Vance County establishing a relationship of trust and support through local Law Enforcement Agencies. The name of this project will be entitled “TAG” Teens Against Gangs.

TAG’s ANTI-GANG Poster Contest will be launched on December 9, 2013 with a deadline of February 22, 2014. All posters will be reviewed by a panel of judges to include community leaders, educators, faith based individuals and local law enforcement. Sheriff Peter White will be the final approving authority of the winners that send the strongest message against gangs. There will be three winners 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Prizes will range from a PLAYSTATION 4, $100.00 in cash and pizza certificates along with a ride-a-long with a deputy from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office. Rewarding positive behavior has always proven to be successful. The winners will experience a day in the life of Vance County Sheriff Deputy firsthand and how rewarding a career in law enforcement can be.

The TAG’s ANTI-GANG Poster Contest is designed to give our teens a voice through artful expressions, while promoting awareness and prevention. The Vance County Sheriff’s Office is elated to work in a partnership with Vance County Public Schools in the success of “OUR YOUTH” The posters will foster a combined effort of outreach through community action, law enforcement and public awareness. TAG’s ultimate goal is to promote the Mission of the Vance County Sheriff’s Office which Sheriff Peter White embodies “To improve the quality of life of all citizens through diligent efforts to, reduce crime combat illegal drug activity while protecting lives and property”
