A Department of Transportation worker was killed in a crash early Sunday while crews removed sand from N.C. Highway 12 in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the recent nor'easter that hit the Outer Banks.

A day after an election that both parties agreed was a mandate to find compromise and avoid the so-called fiscal cliff, Democratic and Republican congressional leaders also continued to sharply disagree over the key issue of whether top tax rates should be raised to help resolve the looming crisis.

There are more travel delays Thursday because of a nor'easter moving along the East Coast. A number of flights were canceled Wednesday because of the storm.

After today we will see temperatures graually warm up to the weekend. Looking for a little bit of “Indian Summer,” by Saturday and Sunday we can see highs in the upper 60’s, lower 70’s.  

McCrory had led significantly in every poll since Dalton won the Democratic primary in May. He also recently picked up endorsements of the newspapers in Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and other cities.
