Monday is the 10th week of Moral Monday protests is planned at the General Assembly. The NAACP and other groups use the demonstrations to speak out against cuts to unemployment benefits and changes to voting laws, and other Republican backed policies they say hurt the poor and minorities.

The North Carolina State Utilities Commission will hold a hearing Monday about Duke Energy Carolinas’ request for a rate increase. The 9.7 percent increase would affect 1.9 million NC customers, primarily in the Piedmont, including Charlotte and the Triad.
