The triangle is headed for one of the driest years in its history. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport has seen only 26.87 inches of precipitation this year. The average is more than 43 inches. The record so far is 29.93 inches for the year set back in 1933. If RDU doesn’t receive more than 3.06 inches of rain by the end of the year, it will be the driest year since records were kept back in 1887.
