Listen as Judge Morgan talks with Melissa about why he is running for the NC Supreme Court.

Here’s little about Judge Mike Morgan

Public service is the essence of Judge Mike Morgan.  He has been a judge for over 27 years spanning three different judgeships:

  • 2005-present: Superior Court Judge, elected in Wake County
  • 1994-2004: District Court Judge, Wake County
  • 1989-1994: State Administrative Law Judge

In addition, as a veteran faculty member of the National Judicial College located on the campus of The University of Nevada, Judge Morgan has taught and trained judges from all over the United States and its territories for the past 24 consecutive years.  In recognition of his stellar instruction, Judge Morgan was awarded the institution’s V. Robert Payant Award for Teaching Excellence for 2014-2015, emblematic of the National Judicial College’s National Teacher of the Year. But Judge Morgan’s public service includes more than just his judicial experience in the courtroom and classroom.

Judge Morgan was reared in New Bern, North Carolina by parents committed to serving their community.  His late father, Leander Morgan, Sr., was elected to three terms as Mayor of New Bern, the first and only African-American to serve as the city’s mayor.  Judge Morgan’s mother, Barbara Morgan, was a four-term school board member.  Together, Judge Morgan’s parents dedicated themselves to community leadership while continuing the family business of over 80 years, Rivers-Morgan Funeral Home.  As the eldest of their five children, Judge Morgan has joined his adult siblings in pursuing this family legacy of public service, community uplift, educational attainment, integrity and respect.
