Friday afternoon dozens of school buses were running behind schedule, after a number of Wake County school bus drivers refused to get behind the wheel in protest over the school district’s decision to change bus routes, which has left them working fewer hours.  According to WRAL several drivers said that they are tired of living from one paycheck to the next and feel district administrators haven’t lived up to promises to increase their pay.

District officials couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, but they passed messages along to parents through Twitter and automated phone calls saying that there will be bus delays.  Some bus routes could be delayed up to an hour, and the Transportation Department was working on the issue.

However parents weren’t pleased with the Friday afternoon surprise.
