Radio One’s Founder and Chairperson, Cathy Hughes, has been the recipient of numerous business and industry honors throughout her career. She continues to shine bright as a beacon of light and an example of what a dream and perseverance can produce. From last year’s landmark honor bestowed on her by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation to her induction into the Advertising Hall of Fame and the Lifetime Achievement Award she will receive from ADCOLOR this weekend, Ms. Hughes is no stranger to success. Yet, when the H Street Main Street and the entire H Street Community in Washington D.C. informed Ms. Hughes of their decision to honor her with the renaming of 4th and H Street NE, Cathy Hughes Corner, she was humbled. This corner marks the birthplace of Radio One; where WOL was born. Now, thirty-five years later this very intersection will bear her name in our country’s capitol.

The street naming celebration will take place during the H Street Festival on Saturday, September 19. The festival will be held from 12 – 7 p.m. on H Street NE from 4th to 14th Street. The street naming celebration to honor Ms. Hughes will be held at the stage location on 4th and H Street NE at 12:30 p.m.
