On Tuesday Reports surfaced that Michael Vick was on his way to Pittsburgh to meet with the Steelers about being the number two quarterback to Ben Rothelisburger since Bruce Gradkowski suffered a dislocated finger. Not too long after that, a Change.org petition was started to keep Vick from being a Steeler, referencing the 35-year-old veteran’s dog-fighting incident that landed him in prison.

“Michael Vick is a convicted felon and no-class piece of crap. He is also a terrible QB which is why he has no team.  Let’s united as Steeler fans – as NFL fans – and stop him from playing on our team! Steelers fans united! Sign to keep Vick from ever wearing the coveted Steelers uniform!!”

Only a few hours after the petition was created, an estimated 5,000 Steelers fans, suddenly concerned with the character of one of their quarterbacks, signed it.  However the petition had no effect since Tuesday evening, it was confirmed that Vick had signed a one-year deal with the team.

Vick is not only on the roster, but he has a vote of confidence from head coach Mike Tomlin. Here’s what Tomlin had to say:

“Obviously we’re sensitive to those potential things but we are going to do our due diligence. Rest assured that we’ve done that, but rest assured he’s done a lot since he’s gone through some of the things he’s gone through and his track record at this point in that regard speaks for itself.”
