While riding one of Cedar Point’s most popular roller coasters a man lost some of his belongings on the ride and then got off to collect them.  According to authorities that decision ultimately cost him his life.

Police said early Thursday evening at the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park the man who has been identified as 45 year old James A. Young II was struck by part of the Raptor roller coaster.

Sandusky Assistant Police Chief Phil Frost told reporters that after losing some of his things, Young “jumped over a fence into a restricted area under the Raptor and was looking for his personal belongings, he was struck by the Raptor train that was in operation.”

According to Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards, “Park safety officials responded immediately to the situation. Unfortunately, the guest has passed away.”  Frost confirmed that no one else was injured in the incident.

Roller coasters are the major attractions at Cedar Point and the Raptor is one of the amusement parks 17 coasters.
