Hundreds of people showed up for a vigil that was held last night for a woman who was failed by the system and killed by domestic violence.

Tracy Williams did all she could to keep her ex-boyfriend Garry Yarborough from making good on the death threats that he constantly made to her. She filed protective orders against him in three counties: Johnston, Wake and Franklin. The one in Wake County was filed after he allegedly kidnapped her. She even bought a gun.

However, Sunday Tracy was gunned down at an ATM in a Food Lion parking lot. Yarborough, who has a criminal record of 89 arrests, was arrested the next morning at a hotel in Raleigh and charged with her murder.

The family asked many times why Yarborough was he out free because he was a federal felon… officers and magistrates could not offer an answer.  The family vows to push for laws to change for victims of domestic violence.

A viewing for Tracy is planned for Friday evening.
