According to police, late Wednesday night near a dorm at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill two people were robbed at gunpoint.  It’s not clear if the victims were UNC students.

Officials from the university said two men with handguns approached a male and female victim at 11 p.m. near Aycock Hall on Raleigh Road.  Authorities said after the suspects demanded property from both of the victims they were last seen leaving the area in a white four-door sedan.

Students were given directions to stay inside, close doors and windows and follow any directions from emergency responders.  However early Thursday the university admitted that students didn’t receive a follow-up email or phone message until 45 minutes after the robberies.

The”all clear” announcement wasn’t given until just before midnight. Campus officials will be looking into the communication breakdown.

At this time no arrests have been made.  Anyone with information about the robberies are urged to call UNC police.
