On Sunday, July 19th the first-ever National Basketball Players Association Awards were handed out in Las Vegas.  However the results of the voting were revealed in a nationally televised broadcast Tuesday evening on BET.

Of course the league’s official hardware was handed out following the conclusion of the 2014-15 regular seasons but the purpose of the NBPA Awards is to provide players with a chance to recognize their peers for their accomplishments.

During the event conventional awards were handed out like MVP, Best Rookie and Best Defender, the players also handed out trophies for Best Homecourt Advantage, Player You Secretly Wish Was on Your Team and Clutch performer, among others.

Allen Iverson was honored with the Game-Changer Award and Ray Allen was given the Man of the Year Award.  Incidentally, the nominees for Hardest to Guard and Most Valuable Player were identical but the winners were not.

Stephen Curry took home the award for Hardest to Guard and James Harden went home with the MVP award.  The award was no shock since the Rockets were simply helpless without Harden.

The NBPA Awards was a ceremony for the players, by the players, and their votes revealed a great deal about how those on the inside view the game they love so much.
