I have never met someone that wakes up with a strong desire to become a failure. Even those that have thrown in the towel and given up on life still yearn for success.
Despite the deep desire to achieve many fall short of their self determined goals. When failure raises its head, grins and peeks through the window of our house of cards the sense of being mocked by failure causes much soul searching and self examination.
During that detailed surgical exploration of ourselves we often confirm that we are gifted, talented, filled with desire and belief in our mission. That expedition though successful in identifying what’s present is often unable to identify what’s missing, discipline.
Discipline is a necessary ingredient for success. Having talent is not enough. Discipline creates consistency. Discipline gets you up out of bed when you are tired and it prioritizes your agenda to push non productive tasks to the back of the line. Playing games on your smart phone won’t help you build your business. Discipline turns the phone off and redirects you towards your destiny.
As a physician I’m not surprised that diets don’t work. It’s not because diets are inherently flawed. It’s not the ingredients in the food as much as the lack of a very important ingredient in us, discipline.
