A California officer’s body cam video shows what the ACLU is calling a wrongful arrest as well as the use of excessive force since the victim who was eight months pregnant, was shown being wrestled to the ground.

The arrest was initiated after the police were informed that the victim, who is an African American, allegedly got into an argument with a Caucasian woman outside a school in Barstow, California.  Attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California (ACLU), Jessica Price released her official statement regarding the incident:

“I’d say it’s pretty horrifying because the parent is dropping off her second-grade daughter (and) got into altercation with another parent.  A lot of people are going to look at this and going to say there is some level of racial profiling and bias going on here.”

The police department strongly denies the arrest being racially motivated. “It is apparent that Ms. Cook actively resisted arrest,” the city statement said.

According to Lt. Mike Hunter the department is currently undergoing an internal investigation regarding the matter.  Apparently the incident started because the women were upset with each over a driving dispute.
