Megachurch Pastor Rick Warren spoke at the Senate hearing on Global Health Problems last week, urging the church, public and private sectors to collaborate to fight international poverty.
Dr. Warren is passionate about attacking what he calls the five “Global Goliaths” – spiritual emptiness, egocentric leadership, extreme poverty, pandemic disease, and illiteracy/poor education. His goal is a second Reformation by restoring responsibility in people, credibility in churches, and civility in culture. He is a pastor, global strategist, theologian, and philanthropist. It was the natural next step for him to take his plea to senate.
He also explained why he believed it could lead to greater peace in the future:
It’s far more cost effective, far cheaper, for Americans to send medicine to make friends now, than to send troops to fight enemies later. Medicines cost less than tanks.
