The homicide investigation for the murder of Luciano Mariano Andia, a 72-year-old man who was found dead inside his car at the High House Crossing shopping center on N.C. Highway 55, has abruptly come to an end. A 53-year-old man was charged late Sunday in connection with the crime.

The suspect, Dwight Anthony Blount, of Cary, N.C. was being held without bond in the Wake County jail as early as Monday. The Cary Police Department received a call a little before 7 a.m. on Saturday which led them to the car where they found Mr. Andia’s body.  Although Andia’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, police have released a minimal amount of information regarding the injuries the victim sustained or even the motive behind the crime.

However, the witness responsible for discovering the body said that the victim had been shot.  According to state records, Blount’s criminal rap sheet dates back as far as 1981 when he served eight years in prison for second-degree kidnapping.  Other crimes committed by the suspect include, second-degree murder and felony breaking and entering.

Cary police Capt. Randall Rhyme released a statement about the homicide case in which he said:

“We hope this arrest brings some measure of closure to Mr. Andia’s family. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in bringing the suspect into custody so quickly.”
