Police Find Themselves On the Hot Seat

Richmond, VA – Westover Hills Community Center was the setting for “Let’s Talk About It,” a coming together of communities to talk about the recent murders and protests involving Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

In this first Town Hall meeting setting, directly focused on these issues, close to one hundred people turned out to express their concerns, outrage and frustration at the recent racist actions still plaguing our country.

Panelists included Richmond Police Officers, a School Board Members, Civil Rights, Communities Activists, Willie O’Neil, Carlos Vieira and Radio Personality, Sheilah Belle, The Belle.

The discussions included questions and comments that ranged from; “There needs to be some accountability for Police Officers,” “What rights do people have to prevent police officers from harassing them?” to “While there are good cops and known bad cops, why are the bad cops allowed to stay on the force?”

Additionally, one of the police officers said, “We are needed but not wanted.” This comment really caught many off guard, with some nodding their heads in agreement.

The dialogue was truly a good start for those who were there, as it provided a comfortable atmosphere to speak freely and comfortably about anything concerning to them.

Pastor Marlon Anderson, the organizer of the FREE event says, “There are more talks and discussions like these to come, so be on the look out.!”
