Minutes after President Obama concluded his State of the Union Address last night, Phillip Agnew of the youth empowerment group, the Dream Defenders delivered the League of Young Voters’ first ever State of the Youth Address.

This address outlined the social justice priorities of millions of young voters of color. These priorities include issues that affect the urban community such as  gun violence, minimum wage, education, immigration, racial equality and more.

The State of the Youth Address is the postmortem to the League of Young Voters’ pre-State of the Union #BarackTalk Twitter Townhall where the League and additional civic engagement groups talked about issues anticipated for discussion for the State of the Union.  It allowed tthe younger generation to talk back to President Obama–raising their voices to make change in Washington, reflecting their standing in the 2014 political landscape.

The League meets young people where they are, works on issues that affect their lives, and provides them with tools, training, and support to become serious catalysts for change.

Now watch this amazing video:

The League’s pre-SOTU #BarackTalk Twitter Townhall generated over 5,000 tweets and the hashtag got over 14 million impressions.
