The Raleigh/Wake Chapter of Jack and Jill of America will sponsor the Third Annual Jack and Jill Ran Up the Hill 5K and 1-mile Fun Run on Saturday, September 14, 2013. The event will start at 8 a.m. at 1050 Town Hall Drive in Morrisville.

The course is USATF (USA Track and Field) certified. Chip timing will be available for serious racers, but participants may race, run, or walk. Following the 5K is the 1 mile Fun Run for kids 12 years and younger. The race is sponsored by New Balance, RightTime KiDS Drop-In Childcare, Kool KidZ Drop-In Childcare and Stan Chambers, Jr. Photography.

The event will include a Zumba demonstration, kids corner with bounce house, face painting and other fun, healthy activities.

“This is a great community event for individuals and families that promotes active lifestyles and raises funds to support programs of local organizations that help children to excel,” said Stephanie Irby Coard, President of the Raleigh/Wake Chapter of Jack and Jill of America.

All profits from the race will go to support CONCERT, “an academic enrichment program for at-risk students in high poverty, East Raleigh schools,” and the Jack and Jill Foundation.

The 24-Hour Telethon is back!

After a wildly successful year in 2012, the Food Bank and Gregory Ng of Freezerburns are coming together once again to hold the 24-Hour Telethon 2013 as a part of Hunger Action Month. Our goal this year? To raise $50,000 and 5,000 pounds of food!

The 24-Hour Telethon 2013 will begin streaming LIVE from our Raleigh Warehouse at 12 noon on Friday, September 13 and continue through 12 noon on Saturday, September 14. The event will be hosted by Gregory Ng of the popular online frozen food review show, FreezerBurns and will raise awareness, funds and food as part of Hunger Action Month.

You are invited to tune in at foodbank24.org or visit the warehouse to partake in the exciting events planned. The telethon will be packed with entertaining activities and enlightening interviews. Events will include a Food Truck Rodeo, the Social Media Mixer, and a “Midnight Madness” volunteer activity. Plus dance lessons, yoga, a pig pickin’, appearances by the Carolina Rollergirls and the Carolina Railhawks and much more!

Last year, over $20,000 was raised, 12,000 pounds of food sorted by volunteers and 3,000 pounds of food donated! Over 13,000 viewers tuned in from 9 countries worldwide, not to mention 24,000 followed on Twitter!
