If you’re heading out of town for Thanksgiving, be sure to pack your patience. Wednesday marks one of the busiest travel day of the year.

More than 3,500 people are expected to fly in and out of RDU Airport just Wednesday alone. Airports across the Tar Heel state say they’re ready for the influx of passengers flying to see loved ones for thanksgiving.

AAA estimates more than 43 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more for the holiday, a small increase in travelers from the year before. However, air travel is expected to be down slightly this year. Despite the predictions, airport officials are still expecting about the same as last year.
