The state of North Carolina’s political landscape leading into election day is becoming more clear.

Final totals are expected Monday for the number of people who took advantage of early voting.

State Board of Elections data show the number of baIlots cast in-person during early voting reached 2.55 million as of Saturday, exceeding the record 2008 total of 2.4 million. Forty-eight percent of early voters in North Carolina were registered Democrats, while about 32 percent were Republicans.
