Whitney Houston’s longtime friend, Kim Burrell exchanged voice mails with the singer shortly before her death. Burrell described Houston as being “in great spirits, as always.” Burrell knew Houston to be a “fighter” and a “survivor.”
Burrell said she was confident in Houston’s religious foundation. “Whitney knew to go to God. Whitney knew how to pray,” a tearful Burrell said Monday. “… I’m very confident that whatever her last moments were, she knew that God could be there for her. … She’s with him today.”
The last voicemail Houston left for Burrell had gospel music playing in the background. “It’s just very hard today to see all of this,” she said. “It’s very surreal, but I’m trying very hard to be strong for her.”
Kim Burrell is scheduled to be at Women’s Empowerment March 17, 2012 at the RBC Center in Raleigh.
