Wendell police say they have found the body of the man they believe opened fire at a local grocery store Wednesday night. Tariq Taylor was found dead inside a barn off of Marshburn Road Thursday. The barn is two miles from the Food Lion where the shooting took place.

Officers say Taylor shot three employees there one of which remains at the hospital.

Police say it was shortly before 7:00 p.m. when they received the call that someone had opened fire and shot three Food Lion employees. Authorities said Taylor, 21, came in the store looking for his partner, 20-year-old Jason Jeffery.

Police say Taylor fired many rounds hitting two other employees and shooting Jeffery multiple times before leaving. Officials say Taylor rents a home on Wendell Boulevard. They came looking for him after the shooting Wednesday night, but he was gone.

“We’re looking at all possible leads at this time. Any family members, any friends. We’re starting to do another ground search. They did a K-9 search, but due to the weather, we weren’t able to get many leads because of the heavy rain that came through,” said Lt. Bobby Langston of the Wendell Police Department.

Police consider the crime to be a domestic dispute.
