Jury selection began Tuesday in the Laurence Lovette murder trial. The 21-year-old is one of two men accused of killing UNC Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson. On Monday, a judge ruled the jury will be able to hear that Lovette is also charged with another murder.
Lovette pleaded not guilty in her death. Due to all the public attention this case has received, jury selection is expected to be done individually rather than as a group.
Lovette is charged with abducting, robbing and shooting Carson to death in March 2008. During pre-trial motions Monday, an Orange County judge decided jurors will also hear testimony about the murder of Duke graduate student, Abhijit Mahato. Lovette is also charged with his death.
