13 year old, Shakanah China was standing outside her apartment complex when several shots were fired from a green van; she was pronounced dead at Duke Hospital.
The family says this should be a wake up call to the violence in the area, with a similiar incident that happened in 2009. Shakanah was a 7th grader at Lakeview in Durham and funeral arrangements are pending.
