The men’s and women’s basketball programs at Shaw are going dancing.

After pulling the CIAA Tournament sweep over the weekend, the Bears (22-8 overall) and Lady Bears (21-11 overall) earned bids into the NCAA Division II basketball championship tournament.

As an eight seed in the Atlantic region, the women will have a challenging opening round matchup when they travel to Edinboro (26-3 overall) out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the pod’s top seed.

The men’s first-round opponent is from much closer to home.

The fourth-seeded Bears (22-8 overall) will face off against fellow CIAA member Winston-Salem State (19-7 overall), the Atlantic region’s fifth seed, on Saturday on the campus of West Liberty University.

Game times are not yet set.

Shaw finished just behind the Rams in the Southern Division of the CIAA this season after finishing with an identical 7-3 record within the division, but losing the tiebreaker based on overall conference record.

The teams split two regular season matchups in February, with Shaw beating Winston-Salem State, 77-64, at home and losing to the Rams, 59-49, on the road.
