Fridays reports that the Roanoke Rapids minister Rev. Sam Dixon had been freed from the rubble of a Haiti hotel were incorrect. The Rev. Sam Dixon and two others in leadership roles with the United Methodist Committee on Relief were at the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince Tuesday when a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the city on Tuesday. Mixed reports fist said he had been freed, then that he was still trapped but had managed to get out with minor injuries and finally that he had dies after being trapped.

The family says, “the best way anyone can honor his memory is by continuing the work that he started in Haiti.
