A major snow storm could hit the Triangle and surrounding areas early next week, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

The way things look now, this could be a significant storm for us coming up out of the Gulf, and that would be Monday, Monday night into Tuesday.

Early projections suggest the storm could be as large as the one that dropped about a foot of snow across the state on Christmas.

“We’re probably not going to have any problems through at least Saturday into Sunday. After that, hmm, it looks very interesting,” Gardner said.

A few flurries may fall during the next 48 hours, but next week’s possible storm will be the one to watch.
