RALEIGH — The committee studying the best way to spend $400 million in federal education money is scheduled to meet in Raleigh.
The 26-member Education Transformation Commission is set to have its first meeting today on North Carolina’s share of federal “Race to the Top” money.
Members of the commission include teachers, school board members, experts and administrators. The group is being led by Bill Harrison, chairman of the state Board of Education.
Gov. Beverly Perdue appointed the commission.
North Carolina was one of nine states to win a Race to the Top grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The state plans to use the $400 million to improve teacher quality, student performance and career preparation.
