The Wake County Public School System has been asking the public for budget suggestions since late last week.
Fees to ride buses; four-day weeks with longer days; even eliminating school cafeterias, forcing all students to bring their lunch: those are just a few of the budget suggestions submitted online for Wake County Public Schools.
In less than a week, they’ve already received more than 400 ideas of how to cut costs or raise more money.
The school system is expecting a budget shortfall between $70 million and $100 million next year. School leaders are trying to avoid laying off teachers and cutting programs, so they want to hear everyone’s suggestions.
