The Idea of having a probation office built 488 feet from area’s local middle school, has caused some parents to be concerned for their children’s safety. Recent state budget cuts have led the county to decide to erect the probation office near the most unlikely and opposed location, Halifax middle school. Halifax County Manager Tony Brown released a statement on Friday saying “Budgets are tight, and I think the reason this started in the first place was with the state’s budget.”

Brown informs the residents that the Halifax County Adult Probation and Parole Office is set to open in July. This project will reportedly save the county at least an estimated $40,000 a year.
