Branford Marsalis, a board member of the North Carolina Symphony Society, is helping the North Carolina Symphony raise money with a performance that includes classical, blues, folk, gospel and of course — jazz. Marsalis will perform tonight in Raleigh in a benefit for the symphony. All proceeds will support the orchestra’s statewide service and education programs. The recession has caused financial problems for the symphony, and they hope to raise more than $100,000.  Last year, Marsalis performed on the symphony’s first commercial recording as a soloist on one performance and with his quartet on another.
