The year was 1960 and the country was being shredded by discrimination and harsh racially motivated complications. Many African American men and women were jailed or met a worse fate for standing up for their civil rights. On Feb. 25 35 students organized and put into action a sit in demonstration. As a result three on those men involved in the movement who were students at Alabama State University McFadden, Dixon and Peterson were kicked out of school along with six other students.

Well thank goodness it’s never too late to right a wrong. 50 years later these three men received long-awaited degrees on Saturday. James McFadden, St. John Dixon and Joseph Peterson were applauded as they walked across the stage during commencement at Dunn-Oliver Acadome to receive honorary degrees from President William Harris.
