The Raleigh Rescue Mission was in need of food earlier today but made their goal and was able to serve about 600 holiday meals to low-income families, the sick and elderly. More than 100 volunteers, in shifts every 15 minutes, prepared, packaged and delivered meals as part of the “Gobbles to Go” program. The mission offers the service every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Also officials said that the Durham Rescue Mission handed out 7,000 toys at its annual giveaway on Wednesday. Yesterday morning they were about 1,000 toys short of their goal but by the afternoon toys began flooding in and they were able surpass their goal.
