Starting today, North Carolinians looking for new home appliances can soon save money on more energy efficient models. Shoppers can now take advantage of a 15 percent federal instant rebate on Energy Star appliances. To be eligible for the rebate, shoppers must be North Carolina residents and have a clunker of their own to trade in. The U.S. Department of Energy says North Carolina has $8.8 million in available rebates. Earlier this year in Florida, the $17.6 million they had went in a day and a half. Iowa’s $2.7 million was gone in just seven hours.
