WRAL reports going west from the Triangle, North Carolinians are waiting to see if the weather will deliver an early Christmas snow.
Fifty-three counties are under a winter storm watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. The watch means that there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
North Carolina Department of Transportation crews will be out Thursday putting down an anti-icing salt brine on interstates and highways. Lower-volume primary and secondary roads will be treated next, then subdivision streets. If it rains first, crews will re-spray the roads.
